How to Make Cold Brew Teas

In the heat we have been enjoying, keeping hydrated is key! Cold Brew Teas are a refreshing, delicious and healthy way to keep cool and quench your thirst. And experts recommend loose leaf tea for the best flavour, but of course.

Extremely easy to make and boasting lots of health benefits. The process of cold brewing means that there are higher levels of nutrients, more antioxidants and less caffeine. (Naturally, with fruit and herbals brews there is no caffeine at all!). Cold brew also naturally sweetens when infusing and so it’s a healthy swap if you usually drink sugary cordials or juice.

How to Make Cold Brew TeaCOLD BREWING TEA INSTRUCTIONS:

 What You Need:

  • Container with lid – water bottle, jug, mason jar…anything with a lid to prevent other fridge aromas from tainting the brew. Glass or ceramic over plastic because of staining.
  • An infuser or paper filter (optional).
  • A fridge!

Method:

  • Measure double the amount of your loose leaf tea of choice e.g. instead of 2g per 200ml, use 4g.
  • Place tea leaves in the container – you can use an infuser or a paper filter but it is important the leaves have space to expand.
  • Top up with fresh, cold filtered or bottled water – you need good water.
  • Close the lid making sure it is airtight.
  • Place in the fridge and allow to brew approx. guide and to taste are:
    • Fruit teas give 12+ hours.
    • Green* or white teas 8+ hours.
    • Black* teas brew overnight 8-12 hours.
  • Strain and replace lid.

*including flavoured teas.

Tips and Hints:

  • Cold brewing is gentle and leaving longer will not ruin the result.
  • Once brewed and strained, the tea will keep up to four days in the fridge.
  • Experiment to see what length of brewing suits you – just not too short as you need to allow the flavour to develop.
  • Any loose leaf tea will do. Have fun!
